The Croatian Institute for Movement and Dance (HIPP) is a non-profit organization. Founded by Mirna Žagar in 1990, HIPP operates on local, national, and international levels, fostering the growth of Croatian dance professionals and facilitating their integration into the global dance network.
HIPP has been instrumental in lobbying for structural support for Croatian contemporary dance, most notably by initiating the establishment of Zagreb Dance Centre, Croatia’s first purpose-built dance facility. The Institute successfully managed the Centre from its opening in 2009 until 2017.
HIPP is also the producer of the Dance Week Festival (Tjedan suvremenog plesa), Croatia’s most prominent dance festival, established in 1981. The festival has hosted over 1,000 internationally acclaimed dance artists and companies and has supported the production of more than 100 works by Croatian dance makers.
HIPP is a member of the European Dancehouse Network (EDN) and IETM.
