This October, IM Industries is proud to support Ukrainian artist Anton Ovchinnikov for a two-week artistic residency in Zagreb, as part of his ongoing project Choreographies of Wars. The residency is supported by the Lithuanian Cultural Council (Lietuvos Kultūros Taryba) and realized in collaboration with Zagreb Dance Center.
Drawing from his own experience of displacement and war, Anton’s research investigates how artists respond to violence, trauma, and conflict through embodied artistic practices.
During his stay in Zagreb, the residency focuses specifically on the artistic responses to the Croatian War of Independence, exploring how local contemporary dance artists reflected on the war during the 1990s and in the years that followed. Anton is engaging in both archival and studio research, as well as conversations with artists and cultural workers who were active during and after the conflict.
This residency marks the initial phase of a broader choreographic work, which will include movement sketches, embodied reflection, and interviews, ultimately leading to a performance-based outcome.
The Zagreb segment is followed by a continuation of the residency in Belgrade, hosted by Station - Service for Contemporary Dance.
IM Industries is supporting this residency through local networking and coordination with cultural institutions. As an organization committed to fostering meaningful international artistic exchange, we are honored to support Anton’s profound and timely project.
Stay tuned for more updates as this work evolves.
